UTCN Students Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Williams Racing HQ

Forty Year 11 and Year 13 students from University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN) had the rare opportunity to step inside the world of Formula One on Monday, during an exciting visit to the Atlassian Williams Racing Headquarters in Oxfordshire.

The day began with a hands-on STEM workshop focused on composite materials, giving students practical insight into the engineering techniques used to build some of the world’s fastest racing machines. Guided by Williams specialists, they explored how lightweight, ultra-strong components are designed and tested for F1 performance.

Students also toured the team’s renowned museum, tracing Williams’ rich racing history through its championship-winning cars, memorable moments, and technological breakthroughs. The visit concluded with high-speed fun in the Esports Racing Lounge, where students competed on professional-grade simulators similar to those used by drivers in training.

The trip offered an inspiring look at careers in motorsport engineering and technology, leaving students with a deeper understanding of STEM in action — and a taste of the thrill behind Formula One innovation.
