Students heard from industry professionals from the energy sector as part of their Find Your Future project.

They were tasked with creating a wearable device that could monitor the vital signs of offshore workers.

Every Wednesday morning, students worked on the project with the help of a range of professionals from companies such as Vattenfall and RMI.

Following the six-week project, the students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from the East of England Energy Group.

The sessions are run in partnership with Opito, the national skills body for the energy sector.

Year 12 student Harry said: “Having the chance to work on a real-life project with the help of people who work in that industry was amazing. We all really enjoyed the project and it gave us an insight into what life would be like working in this sector.

Head of skills at the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) Sophie Skipp said: “I was impressed with the creativity and quality of the research undertaken by UTCN’s students. “They always impress me with their presentation and ability to answer some really challenging questions. “I can’t wait to see how this experience supports their future career opportunities.”

The winning team will have the opportunity to present to industry professionals at the EEEGR conference later this year. EEEGR’s supportive members came out in force to mentor the students and ensure that every young person spent time with a role model.
