Students earn place in national final after appeal

OUR F1 in Schools team has made the national final on their first attempt at entering the competition.

The team, ‘Supernova’ came third in the regional final despite winning only one of the rounds.

Just the top two were due to go through to the national showpiece but the team was given a reprieve after appealing their score.

Judges were so impressed with their tenacity that they were offered a last-minute wild card ticket to the final.

The national final will be held in Rotherham in South Yorkshire, with the winners given the chance to compete at the international final.

Team leader Katelin said: “We only discovered we had got a place in the final later than the other teams so we have had less time to prepare. This is our first attempt at F1 in Schools and the other schools have had much more experience, so to get to the final is a real achievement. It’s been a hugely exciting competition and we are all really looking forward to the final. There is loads to do but hopefully we will get there.”

The team is sponsored by the East of England Energy Group and Saxon Air.

Outreach Coordinator Ms Lerpiniere said: “We are extremely proud of how our students have performed throughout this competition. They fully deserve to have made the final. “I know they are all incredibly excited about the next stage. Just getting this far at their first attempt is hugely impressive.”
