Apprentice IT Technician at VMit Ltd

Why did you want to come to UTCN?

I came to UTCN to pursue a career in engineering. My original plan was to start an apprenticeship at KLM, however shortly after joining UTCN, I found I had a ‘knack’ for Computer Science. I had a choice to make: follow my mind and be an engineer, or follow my heart and see how deep the Computer Science rabbit hole goes…

What did you like about UTCN?

One of the main things that I loved about UTCN was that teachers push you to do well. Every teacher at UTCN wants you to succeed in their subject. For example, a few of my classmates at GCSE level found themselves finishing tasks with ease, needing more of a challenge. The teacher, noticing this, supplied the students with the A-Level task, pushing them to really use their heads!

Why did you apply to be an Apprentice IT Technician at VMit Ltd?

I applied for an apprenticeship for VMit to pursue a career in computer science. I originally joined to explore computer hardware, which is something I had specialised during A-Level at UTCN. I soon realised that VMit LTD was more of a software focused company. Rather than leaving and joining a hardware specific company, I decided to give the software side of things a try…

How is your apprenticeship structured?

In my apprenticeship I provide IT support to companies around Norfolk/ Suffolk. I thoroughly enjoy this as it means I get to tinker with technology whilst also helping people – two things I’m very passionate about! I aim to complete my apprenticeship by April 2023 and be a full fledged Senior IT Technician.

Any tips for students currently studying at UTCN?

A piece of advice for students at UTCN: Make use of your teachers! Teachers at UTCN only want the best for their students , so ask them anything!

P.S: shoutout to Mr Beckett, keep up the good work!
