MEng in Aeronautical Engineering at Glasgow University

Why did you want to come to UTCN?

I came to UTCN because the open evening was engaging, the facilities were very impressive, and it seemed to offer specific education that was unique and very beneficial to my chosen career path. The latter point was the most significant to me.

I liked a lot of aspects about UTCN, but some that stood out to me was the professional atmosphere; practical learning; access to unique facilities and opportunities to improve my skills; competent and engaging teachers; and useful applicable curriculum.

Why did you apply to do a MEng in Aeronautical Engineering?

I applied to do a MEng in Aeronautical Engineering because becoming an aerospace engineer has always been the driving force behind my educational motivation, and this degree will allow me to progress to my ideal job designing modern commercial aircraft.

What does an average week look like for you?

The average weekday for me involves a 6am start, visiting the free university gym facilities, then between 2-5 hours of lectures. Alongside lectures I spend about 1-2 hours a day on independent study and extracurricular activities. On weekends I’ll participate in sports and work on my work for the aerodynamics section of the international DBF competition Glasgow team. My average week is busy and tiring but very rewarding, this is exactly where I’ve worked to be.

Any tips for students currently studying at UTCN?

My advice to current UTCN students is to really engage with all the unique opportunities UTCN offers. Learn CAD, use the 3D printers and laser cutters, join any club or activity you can find, attend all the optional events, and make full use of the massive advantage that will keep you at the top of your peers. The skills and experience I gained from studying at UTCN will continue to positively affect me for my whole uni degree and my career beyond that.
